Sam Geleyn, GAP and Pharos Director
Sam was born in Sint-Niklaas, but has been living in Leuven since 2001. He graduated from KU Leuven with his degree in Commercial Engineering.
For the last few years, Sam has worked as the Gap Programme Director in Leuven and has taken responsibility for some of the Kairos Summer Programmes, the international network which Pharos is a part of.
When he gets a chance, Sam enjoys playing football, playing music (he plays both the guitar and piano), mountain biking, traveling, skiing, brewing beer, and learning about learning.
Clare Darnell, Assistant GAP Director and Pharos Staff
Clare is from Ypsilanti, Michigan, USA. In 2010, Clare graduated with her Bachelor of Arts in Human Resources from Michigan State University. During this last year, Clare served as a missionary for Pharos through the GAP program.
Currently, Clare is on staff for Pharos, working as the Assistant GAP Director, as well as overseeing many of the Pharos planning teams and serving in innumerable other ways. Clare’s interests include meeting new people, learning about different cultures, and playing sports.
Daniel Kallassi, Gapper
Daniel is from Awkar, Lebanon. He graduated from Saint Joseph School Cornet Chehwan this last year. In the fall of 2012 he plans on studying Banking and Finance at the Lebanese American University in Jbeil, Lebanon.
Currently, Daniel is volunteering with Pharos through the GAP program. Specifically, he is involved with planning many of the Pharos activities, as well as overseeing Street Evangelism for Pharos. Daniel enjoys plying football, hunting (birds are his favorite), camping, and all outdoor sports.
Javier Sastre, Gapper
Javier is from Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA. He graduated from Pioneer High School with the class of 2011.
This year he is serving with Pharos through the GAP program. In particular, he is working with many different organizational teams and serves as the director of sporting events. In his free time, Javi is an avid longboarder, enjoys playing football, as well as creating art.
Kate Stevenson, Gapper
Kate was born in Lansing, Michigan, USA. In 2010, she graduated from New Covenant Christian High School. In the fall of 2012, she will begin her second year of university. She is looking to major in either physical education or music.
Presently, Kate is volunteering for Pharos as a Gapper. For Pharos, she leads the worship team, is expanding the music program, and serves on many events committees. When she is not working on all of this, Kate enjoys playing guitar, watching Korean Dramas, and participating in Volleyball, Basketball, and Football.
Marisa Peine, Gapper
Marisa is from Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA. She graduated from Trinity School at River Ridge in Eagan, Minnesota, this last June. Next fall, she plans to begin her university studies in Biology and Pre-Medicine.
Currently, Marisa is serving full-time with Pharos through the GAP program. In particular, she directs communications for Pharos, is working with many event planning teams, and is administrating the up-coming Pharos Weekend. In her free time, Marisa enjoys adventures, coffee, and photography.
Elisabeth Waelkens, Student Staff
Elisabeth is from Western Flanders, Belgium. At present, she is studying Literature and Linguistics (English and Dutch) at KU Leuven, as well as serving on the Pharos Mission Team. With Pharos, she participates in Pharos event planning teams and helps with communications. Elisabeth loves reading, musicals and Ireland, and used to do classical ballet.
Maarten Baumers, Student Staff
Maarten is a native Belgian. He graduated in July 2011 as
a Master in Biology. Currently, he is doing the teachers’ training program at KULeuven. He is also serving as a part of the Pharos Mission Team, helping to plan many of the events living in the Pharos men’s household. In his free time, Maarten enjoys singing, playing the recorder, birdwatching, taking nature walks, and spending time with friends.
Simon Luyts, Student Staff
Simon
is originally from Leuven, Belgium. Currently he is a student at KU Leuven, working on his First Bachelor in engineering sciences. Along with his studies, he is also serving as a part of the Pharos Mission Team. With Pharos, he works with many of the planning teams, as well as participates in street evangelism. He enjoys hanging out with people, learning to play the banjo, and playing tennis and volleyball.
